Description
Copper-alloy Medieval seal matrix, Circa 1275-1400 AD. 10.63 g, 28mm x 19mm. Chessmen type seal matrix with a tapering faceted neck, suspension loop and round seal face. The design on the matrix is of a stag, advancing left, surrounded by the legend * ALAS BOVVLES, which is thought to be a Medieval hunting cry. Ref: Bryon Pateman-collecting seals.
